Opposing Facility Closures

Summary of Issues
Governor Cuomo's 2013-14 Executive Budget proposal calls for the closure of Beacon and Bayview Correctional Facilities. The budget also proposes the authorization of the potential closures or the reduction of services of a facility operated under the Office of Mental Health (OMH) without adhering to the one-year notification requirement. NYSCOPBA strongly opposes these initiatives to close more facilities and takes exception that the Governor is attempting to circumvent the one-year notification laws.

NYSCOPBA members statewide are being called on to mobilize. Please contact your state legislator and ask them to oppose the Governor's proposal to close facilities. Stand with your brothers and sisters of Beacon and Bayview Correctional Facilities and stop the closures of more prisons! Enough is enough! Your facility could be next!
