Anti-Privitization Bill

Governor Spitzer signs NYSCOPBA's Anti-Privatization bill - After four (4) vetoes by the previous Governor, Governor Spitzer understood and agreed with NYSCOPBA's long struggle to ban private prisons in New York State . The bill (Click here/ Attached) specifically preserves as a non-transferable governmental responsibility the duty to maintain custody and supervision of persons committed or sentenced to state and local correctional facilities by prohibiting the replacement of state and local correction officers by private guards. President Larry Flanagan, Jr. stated " He was pleased with Governor Spitzer's decision to sign the bill and grateful to the NYSCOPBA membership for their perseverance in pursuing this bill."anti-privitization
