SHU Officer opened the hatch on a cell to collect the window crank from an inmate and give him his evening meal. Inmate reached out through the hatch and grabbed the officer’s arm. The officer slid the hatch against inmate’s arm to release his grip enough to pull away. Sgt. was notified and reported to the area. Inmate was taken to the frisk room in SHU where use of force photos were taken and to be examined by medical. He was escorted back to his cell and as the door was closing the inmate stuck his arms in the opening. Sgt. signaled the console officer to open the door so the inmate would not get injured. The inmate lunged forward through the opening and head butted the Sgt.. Officers used body holds to force inmate to the back of his cell. Inmate became compliant. The Sgt. received seven stitches above his eye and a concussion.
