11/5/17 at 2:30 pm, Correction Officer escorted inmate from the visiting room to his housing unit.  Upon arriving to the 3rd floor stairway landing, the inmate pulled his right hand out of his pocket and punched the Officer in his face.  The Officer attempted to gain control of the inmate with upper body holds.  As the inmate struggled to break free of the hold, both the inmate and the Officer fell down the stairs.  Inmate was then able to escape the Officer’s grasp upon impact with the 2nd floor landing and ran down the remaining stairs.  He then pushed responding Officer  into responding Officer, running pass them and into the housing area.  Inmate charged at and physically crashed into Officer, who was pushed back into a hallway by the force of the impact with the inmate.  Officer was able to use an upper body hold on the inmate and force him to the floor.  Several responding Officers were able to physically restrain the violent inmate and mechanical wrist restraints were applied.

As inmate was being escorted to the facility clinic to be evaluated by medical staff, he refused to continue to walk on his own accord and slowly went down to the floor.  Officer attempted to gain control of inmate’s mechanical restraints when the inmate grabbed her left hand and twisted it in a violent manner.  The Officers then physically carried the combative and struggling inmate to the clinic, during which the inmate kicked Officer twice to her face and once to her arm.  The Officers were finally able to get the inmate in to an exam room where he stopped resisting.  In total, 9 Officers were injured during this assault.
