Whitehall, NY – CERT Team Members from Great Meadow Correctional Facility helped locate a missing North Country man who suffers from Dementia and wandered into the woods sometime after 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September, 26, 2018.

George “Alan” Houghtby, 75 years old, was reported missing from his home.  Initially, an extensive air and ground search was conducted by members from the New York State Police, ENCON and Forest Rangers.

As the search expanded in the dense woods around Houghtby’s home, State Police requested the assistance of the DOCCS CERT Team out of Great Meadow.   On Friday, at approximately 5:00 p.m., Forest Rangers and CERT Team members located Houghtby in the woods. He was transported to Rutland Regional Hospital for treatment of dehydration and exposure.

“I am extremely proud of the CERT Team members who assisted in finding the missing man last week. These men and women are highly trained professionals who put their extensive training to use assisting our law enforcement partners. The terrain in the area where the victim disappeared was very challenging and we are fortunate the outcome had a happy ending and Mr. Houghtby is now safe and sound” – stated Michael Powers, NYSCOPBA President
