Officer heard a loud commotion in the East mess hall corridor. He observed inmates exchanging slashing type motions and closed fist punches. Officer issued direct orders to stop fighting. Two inmates ran towards the mess hall entrance. Officer gave several direct orders to the inmates to stop, they did not comply. Officer used his right leg in a leg sweep type motion and struck inmate in both lower leg knee area causing inmate to fall to the floor face first. Officer ordered inmate to remain on the floor, inmate complied. Officer then approached inmates who were continuing to exchange slashing type motions and closed fist punches. Officer issued direct orders to stop fighting, which they complied. One inmate continued toward the East mess hall and lowered his right shoulder and forcefully ran into another Officer and attempted to push his way past him. Officer, using both arms in a bear hug type hold, attempted to restrain inmate, who continued to resist him. Area Sgt saw the commotion and called for a level 2 response. Officer responded to assist and using his state issue baton, struck inmate one time in the left shoulder area. Officer then used both hands to gain control of inmates left arm and forced it behind his back. The other Officer used both hands to gain control of inmate’s right arm and forced it behind his back and mechanical restraints were applied and use of force ended.
