Celebrating 20 years of independence

New York State Correctional Officers & Police Benevolent Association, Inc.

Letter received from Lieutenant Michael DeVries, Acting Zone II Commander – NYSP

On March 28, 2018 a Trooper was conducting a traffic stop at the intersection of Main Street and Buell Street in the Town of Newstead.  The intoxicated driver fled on foot when the Trooper attempted to place him under arrest.  Although there were several other civilians in the are you were the only one to stop and assist the Trooper.  First, you blocked the suspect’s path with your vehicle.  Then you risked your own safety by following the Trooper and suspect into a wooded area, where you helped restrain the suspect while the Trooper handcuffed him.. Without your assistance it is unlikely he would have been caught that night.  Further investigation revealed he has several prior arrest for the same offense and was a threat to the public.  Your actions should be commended and the assistance you provided was greatly appreciated.  On behalf of the New York State Police please accept my gratitude for your actions.
