Inmate was out of place on the housing unit tier. Officer gave a direct order to lock in. Inmate refused staff direction. Inmate then exited the tier, approached the officer and made an inappropriate comment. Inmate then struck the Officer with a closed fist on the left side of his face. Inmate continued to punch the Officer’s facial area. To defend himself, the Officer threw left and right hand strikes at the inmate. Area Sgt. notified. Response team arrived, at which time mechanical restraints were applied to a now compliant inmate.
