Inmate attempt to escape from the infirmary room by following the nurses out as they exited.  Officers in the room attempted to stop the inmate by giving verbal direction.  The inmate refused the orders and continued his attempt to exit the room.  As the inmate reached the point where the Officers were positioned, Inmate  struck one of the Officers in the face twice with a closed fist.  The Officer grabbed the inmate by his upper body and pushed him to the wall.  The inmate broke free of the Officer’s grasp and again punched the Officer in the face, knocking him unconscious as he fell to the floor.  The second Officer in the room was also attacked by the inmate and was struck several times to the head and body with closed fist punches.  Responding Officers then used body holds in an attempt to restrain the violently struggling and combative inmate.  He was then taken to the ground where he continued to struggle and remained non-compliant with staff.  Another responding Officer entered and applied OC pepper spray to the facial area of the inmate without the desired effect.  Force was then used to secure the inmates hands behind his back so that mechanical restraints could be applied.
