Officer ordered inmate to comply with a pat frisk on the gallery and be escorted to keeplock medication at the clinic. Without warning, Inmate walked towards Officer and struck him with closed fists to the face and upper body causing the Officer to stumble backwards. Inmate then began to choke Officer with both hands from the front, which prevented the Officer from breathing. Officer then wrapped both arms around inmate’s upper torso, forcing them both to the ground. Inmate then began to head butt Officer on the right side of his head. Inmate maintained his grasp on Officer’s neck, choking him and causing him to have difficulty breathing. With no other means of defending himself, Officer then began to strike inmate with a series of blows to inmate’s facial area using his right fist. Responding Officers were able to get mechanical restraints applied.
