NYSCOPBA, Inc. is the Union representing over 23,000 New York State Employees in this Security Services Unit. NYSCOPBA was formed in 1998 in an effort to bring independent representation to our members rather than being grouped with other State employees. NYSCOPBA, Inc. was certified in 1999 and since that time has provided superior representation to our members under the independent model.

Catastrophic Assistance Application

 

Catastrophic Policy

NYSCOPBA has approved a Catastrophic Policy to assist members and their immediate families in their time of need. Qualified recipients will receive a $750.00 assistance out of the established fund.

In order to qualify for this assistance:

  1. A member's request for Catastrophic Assistance must be submitted by an elected steward from the facility in which the member works and forwarded to their regional Vice President or Business Agent for approval.
  2. A member's request for Catastrophic Assistance must meet one of the following criteria:
    1. Significant amount of damage to primary residence, i.e., house fire, flood, hurricane
    2. Medical travel - extended or continuous medical travel (minimum 150 miles total) for rehabilitation and treatment of member*, member's spouse, child, mother, father, and mother or father in-law.
    3. Terminal illness - member, member's spouse, or child
    4. Death of a spouse and/or child
    5. Any second-time request will need Executive Board approval.

This program is available to all active, in good standing, members of the Bargaining Unit, excluding retirees.

*Medical travel for members who are covered under Workers' Compensation or on Disability status are not eligible for this program.
